Spire is a striking 21-inch tall sculpture that showcases the intricate beauty and craftsmanship of resin art. The artist began by meticulously sculpting the original form in clay by hand, capturing the detailed textures of the Chrysler building. This initial clay model was then used to create a silicone mold, ensuring every nuance was preserved. Finally, many layers of resin were poured into the mold over several weeks, solidifying into this stunning piece. In his exploration of UV paint, the artist was inspired by natural, organic forms that emit their own light. This led him to active volcanoes and the challenge of recreating lava. The artist says: “The process was exhilarating, guiding the flow of molten lava around the stagnant black rock and sand, creating dynamic rivers of magma. This contrasts with the oceanic bodies of water I typically depict. My favorite aspect of this piece is how it truly comes to life under a blacklight. While it may go unnoticed in regular light, it commands attention with its vibrancy in UV light, transforming the entire experience for the viewer.”

After finishing up a series of pieces inspired by water and beach landscapes, the artist turned to more geological inspirations. This piece is reminiscent of marble, but the metallic veins that run through the artwork give it a unique and captivating allure. The shimmering metallic veins contrast beautifully with the smooth, marble-like texture, creating a dynamic interplay between natural stone and industrial elements.

Elevating the most mundane objects is a great passion of the artist. This piece was made by hand sculpting a likeness of a NYC sewer cover, then casting a silicone mold from that sculpture, followed by resin pouring to create this resin sculpture. Loosely inspired by the mixing of milk into coffee, this piece is a prime example of the medium directing the art.

Statement from the artist: “My favorite sand in all of San Francisco is at Kirby Cove, just north of the Golden Gate bridge. It’s a dark grey -almost black- sand with the most gorgeous view of the bridge and city. I loved hiking around there, playing on the rope swing, and the one lucky time we were able to camp at Kirby. A diligent friend put our names on the list months in advance and she scored us a spot. To make it unique to them, I based the coastline off the entire Monterrey and Big Sur area. I then added in both Northern & Southern California elements for each of them (Trees, turquoise waters). Statement from the artist: “At 5ft by 7.5ft, this is definitely the largest piece I’ve ever done. The client, a family in the Bay Area, wanted a specific coastline of Hilo Bay, Hawaii. The mother’s family is from there, and she spent her summers visiting, spending time with Grandma and her Uncle, surfing, relaxing. Now she and her husband take their kids there in the summer to continue the tradition, and remind them of their heritage. Ohana means family, and the 18 tributaries are rivers that come down from the Big Island mountains to join the sea.” (Part of a Private Collection in Lafayette, California)

Statement from the artist: “I had the pleasure of doing a commission for some dear friends who gave me so much creative control, letting me have a lot of fun with this piece. They had just gotten engaged at Molera Beach in Big Sur, CA (after hiking in the trails you see in Parts B & C, they swam out to a big boulder out in the ocean where the question was popped) and wanted a piece to commemorate this personal moment and location. Since I know how they appreciate different lighting schemes in their home, I took the opportunity to use both UV-reactive paint and various glow-in-the-dark pigments in the water. The pictures below show the piece in regular light, blacklight, and no light at all (right when you turn off the lights; those bright colors eventually fade).” (Part of a Private Collection in New York, New York)
